In a recent interview for the promotion of the 'We Are Marshall' drama, the leading man Matthew McConaughey says that he became a fan of the project ever since he read the script and that he knew from the very start that, no matter what, he had to be a part of it.
It focuses on the story of a football program that is about to become extinct when the jet carrying the college team crashes, leaving no survivor. As the program is about to be shut down, coach Jack Lengyel (McConaoughey) is summoned to help form a new team, from the regular students.
Thus, with transfer students, former soccer players and those who fooled death by being benched from the team, the coach manages to form another team to carry on the tradition. The actor says that it was the story that first got his undivided attention: he didn't know that such a tragedy ever took place and the sheer commitment and loyalty of the people simply surprised him.
'There's two scripts I've read in my career - I've made 37 film - that as soon as I finished the last page, I said, "I'm in, no matter what". I finished the script and I couldn't get it off my mind. I had emotions that I haven't had in a while. I didn't know this story. It did make me want to call my mom. It did make me want to call my girlfriend', the actor said about the reaction the script for 'We Are Marshall' had on him.
The movie will hit theaters in the US on December 22.
