The Santa Clara, California based provider of Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, McAfee has revealed in a press release that it has been granted recognition as one of the largest
corporate philanthropists in the Bay Area. The award was handed out by the San Francisco Business Times during the celebrations at the fifth annual Corporate Philanthropy Summit and Awards in San Francisco, Calif., on July 20, 2006.
"We are pleased to honor McAfee and its employees by naming the company to the Business Times' list of top corporate philanthropists. They have demonstrated that they are actively engaged in their community and strategic about aligning their giving to their core strengths," said Tom Van Ess, San Francisco Business Times Community Manager.
Although McAfee's philanthropic efforts are no match for the global household names of charity, the Santa Clara company managed to donate in excess of half a million dollars to various global community organizations. In addition, McAfee has also sponsored projects with more than one million dollars worth of product donations.
"Since the establishment of the McAfee Endowment Fund in 1988, we have committed to giving back to those in need around the world, whether through financial grants, matching gifts, in-kind product donations, collection drives or employee volunteer time," said Douglas Sabo, Director of Government Relations and Corporate Citizenship for McAfee, Inc. "Through our newly named 'McAfee Cares' program, we will continue to strengthen our community partnerships, expand volunteer opportunities and increase McAfee participation in our local communities."
