A couple of hotfixes have been released to address the issue

McAfee customers were very disappointed at the end of last week to see that they kept losing Internet connectivity after applying an update. Another issue caused by the buggy update was the fact that users couldn’t perform any activities in the McAfee Security Center console.

All the McAfee suites have been affected by the problem, including all patched versions of VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.

To address these issues, the company has released a couple of critical hotfixes that must be applied by all customers in order to get everything running normally again.

Corporate users are advised to apply the 793640 hotfix via the ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) console, while regular customers are recommended to update to the 6809 DAT. However, the firm warns that some internauts may not be able to apply 6809 without uninstalling the product and reinstalling it altogether.

The incident has generated a lot of anger among users, many of them taking their disappointment to McAfee’s Facebook page. Here’s what some of them said:

Gee, thanks for this McAfee, but how the hell am I meant to know what the problem is if I can't access my internet?? And in the mean time I had to get my ISP to help me at a cost of $100!! Could you not have sent an email out?? I could have accessed that from my phone. Not good enough!

What a joke! I see this post of the error was made 13 hours ago. My computer did it's auto update 3 hours ago and then hit this problem. Why didn't someone stop more people downloading this update?

This is a terrible and regrettable error for McAfee Company, it cost me a lot of time, handling this malfunction of the software!

I'm sorry but this error is pretty much unforgivable for a corporation like McAfee to make. Many users wouldn't have a clue what is wrong with their internet connection when they can't get on-line. I hope you are putting in proper procedures to avoid users suffering these issues again - proper testing is needed!!!
