New dashboard displaying, new history page, additional support for several useful actions

McAfee, the security firm that proactively secures systems and networks from known and as of yet undiscovered threats worldwide, has released McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 Beta 1. The software is an integrated suite of products that “uses advanced heuristics and protects Apple computers from viruses, trojans, spyware, and other malware,” according to the company.

In keeping with the renowned security firm, McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 Beta 1 will find a threat, vulnerability, or other potentially unwanted code and create a detection report by scanning files, folders, applications, local or network mounted volumes. Scanning can take place immediately, at a specified time, at regularly scheduled intervals, or each time an item is accessed, according to McAfee. New features in McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 Beta 1 include the following, the company adds:

· An enhanced graphical user interface. · A new dashboard displaying:     -   Information on the latest scanning and updating events;     -   Date and time of the last DAT (virus signatures) update;     -   On-access scanning and spyware scanning status. · A “History” page displaying the name, type, and date/time of all the events. · A shortcut icon on the menu bar enabling easy access to the McAfee Security software. · Support for spyware scanning. · Quarantining detected items.

Additionally, McAfee Security 1.0 supports a new detection report called “McAfee Alert,” immediately running multiple on-demand scans, enabling and disabling separate exclusions for on-access scans and on-demand scans and an extended set of primary and secondary actions.

McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 Beta 1 requires a PowerPC or Intel-based Mac computer, 512 MB or higher of RAM and a minimum 120 MB of free disk space (300 MB recommended).
