McAfee Launches Internet Security, Family Protection Bundles for Mac OS X

McAfee has launched its new Internet Security and McAfee Family Protection for Mac. The former allows consumers to surf the web safely, while the latter allows parents to filter inappropriate content from their children, the world’s largest dedicated security company said in a report dated July 22.

The company touts its McAfee Internet Security product as the strongest means of protection for Macs/. According to Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager, consumer, mobile and small business, “McAfee Internet Security suite helps Apple users confidently live their digital lives.” Gebhart added: “It will protect Mac users from the growing threats users experience while searching the Internet every day, and McAfee Family Protection allows parents to keep a watchful eye over their kids’ activities.”

In usual manner, McAfee lists the key benefits of its Internet Security for Mac bundle. These include  the McAfee SiteAdvisor technology, which protects users from malicious Web sites, browser exploits and notifies users whether an ecommerce site has been scanned by McAfee for potential vulnerabilities; Secure Search - a dedicated search tool that allows users to search, explore and shop more securely; Two-Way Firewall Protection, which monitors all data entering and leaving the Mac, while blocking hackers from accessing the computer; Advanced Malware Scanning, which not only detects, but also blocks, and removes all Windows and Mac malware.

Available for Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) or higher, McAfee Internet Security for Mac is purchasable now in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Japan.

Weighing in on the Family Protection pack, McAfee reveals that according to a recent survey, 55 percent of 13-17 year olds said that they hide what they do online from their parents. 36 percent said they would change their online behavior if they knew their parents were watching. As such, McAfee Family Protection for Mac is designed to empower parents to protect and monitor their children when using the Internet, using features like web and program blocking, activity reports, instant notifications, time limits, remote actions etc. Compatible with Leopard or higher, McAfee Family Protection is being made available throughout the same territories.
