Spam is definitely a problem for the majority of the users because a huge amount of unsolicited e-mail message is continuously arriving in their inbox.
Many users own multiple e-mail accounts so the number of spam messages is bigger but very often with the same content. Users that are using a POP3 client are encountering many problems because all the e-mail messages that arrive in their inbox are downloaded on the computer to be read by the owner of the mailbox.
How can we protect against spam? Well, this is a question
that cannot be answered with a real statement because every application that was meant to block these messages can be tricked by the new spam technologies released every day. So, what's the solution? Well, if it isn't any application that can block the spam for 100 percent, at least you can use a program that can do it for 98 percent.
Recently, McAfee received a Checkmark Premium Anti-Spam Certification because their anti-spam solutions blocked 98 percent of spam coming into different mailboxes after some tests performed by West Coast Labs.
"McAfee's anti-spam technology continues to lead the industry when tested in real-world environments. Spammers are developing increasingly complex techniques to evade detection. Our global development teams have excelled in providing proactive and highly effective solutions against their evolving threats. This includes image spam, which currently comprises up to 40 percent of incoming email," said Vimal Solanki, senior director of product marketing, McAfee, Inc.
"McAfee anti-spam detection methods operate simultaneously and are both proactive and reactive. Through extensive threat research and continual tracking of spammers, McAfee products have the ability to block even "zero-day spam." For example, McAfee's domain name reputation technology tracks new domain registrations to predict malicious and/or spammer Web sites before a potential spam campaign. This technique alone can block up to 40 percent of all spam before dissemination," the company sustained in a press release.
