A couple of weeks ago, rumors surfaced that McAfee Vice President and Public Sector CTO, Dr. Phyllis Schneck, might be joining the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Today, McAfee has confirmed the rumors.

Schneck has been appointed to the position of Deputy Undersecretary for Cyber Security at the DHS.

“McAfee takes great pride in the strong partnership we have with the U.S. government, and governments around the world,” Michael DeCesare, president of McAfee, commented.

“Phyllis has long been a trusted and valued member of the McAfee team who has helped build these partnerships. We congratulate her on her appointment to the Department of Homeland Security, and we know she will do an outstanding job as Deputy Undersecretary for Cyber Security.”

The McAfee CTO is no stranger to working with the US government. She has chaired the FBI’s InfraGard program, she has acted as vice chair of NIST’s Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board, and as board chair of the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance.

Schneck has also occupied leadership roles on the CSIS Commission to advise President Obama on cyber security.
