George Samenuk, the chairman and chief executive of McAfee Inc., has officially commented on Windows OneCare. From the get go, McAfee CEO has dismissed the Microsoft product
as a serious rival, and the Redmond Company itself as a competitive adversary on the security software market. According to him, Falcon's features are unmatchable and both Symantec and Microsoft will strike out when McAfee will launch the final product in August 2006. McAfee CEO has welcomed nonetheless Microsoft on the market, even with the Redmond's Company monopoly prices, saying that competitiveness is always beneficial and ultimately leads to the bettering of products.
"When you look at their product offerings, take their consumer offering for example, it doesn't include antispam., it doesn't include antiphishing. It doesn't include protection against identity theft, someone stealing your financial records or your medical records. When we look at our offerings, they are fully integrated comprehensive security offerings that offer full protection, not half protection," said Samenuk.
He also emphasized that Microsoft has announced 21 vulnerabilities in a single day no more than a month ago, and that any product communing from such a source should be regarded with circumspection.
Commenting on McAfee's position relating to its competitors, Samenuk said: "For 10 consecutive quarters we have grown faster than Symantec in the consumer market. We weren't going to beat them in the retail stores because they had a bigger presence than us. Four years ago we elected to fight them through Internet service providers. We had an offering and they did not. Symantec has announced their new Norton 360 product, which will be available a year from now. We're shipping ours next month. That shows you our online strategy is working very well versus their strategy."
Samenuk emphasized on the 90 million McAfee loyal customers and stressed that the company will continue to rebuild its brand. "The McAfee name is well recognized around the globe. I want the 700 million people who are using the Internet today, and the 1 billion who will be using the Internet two years from now, when they think of security to think of McAfee", George Samenuk concluded.
