Levi Johnston, the father of Sarah Palin’s grandson, has announced his candidature for the Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska for 2012, but the actual mayor has a few wise words for him: “keep your clothes on.”

Verne E. Rupright tells Levi the only thing that can actually make him stand a chance with voters is to finish his studies and avoid situations like those he put himself in the past.

20-year-old Levi has had his fair share of bad media since he and his then-fiancé Bristol Palin announced that she was pregnant – and even more so when they said they would get married.

However, he is now bent on making a name from himself separately from the Palin clan through whatever means available to him, be it acting, modeling and, why not, even politics.

In fact, Levi has come up with the perfect thing to launch his career: a reality show that will document his journey to becoming mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, as we also reported yesterday.

It won’t happen without him changing a few things about the way he does business, the current mayor of the town says in a recent interview, as cited by Entertainment Weekly.

For starters, Levi must complete his education. Secondly, he must stop doing photoshoots like the one he did for Playgirl a few months back. Only then will voters would take him seriously.

“Well, it is a little early to declare. Usually most wait until the year the seat is up,” Rupright says when asked about what he thinks of Levi’s intention of running for Mayor in 2012.

“But since I am nearly old enough to be Levi’s grandfather I think it would be wise for him to get a high school diploma and keep his clothes on. The voters like that!” he adds.

As EW also points out, should Rupright decide to run for office again, voters will certainly not think twice about who to vote for.

“Mayor Rupright, who’s held the position since 2008, is a Vietnam vet who’s also served as a defense and personal injury attorney for most of his career,” EW says, pointing out the difference between the current mayor and the aspirant to the chair, Levi.

However, voters might not even have to choose between the two, a Reuters report says. Several major network bosses have gone on the record to say they have no interest in picking up Levi’s reality show.

If this turns out to be true, it could be that the tentatively-called “Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office” will never see the light of day.
