Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, announces plans to sue Fox News for claiming the existence of “no-go zones” inside Paris for non-Muslims

In one of the broadcasts post-Charlie Hebdo, Fox News launched the idea that in Paris and other European cities, there were dangerous “no-go zones” that non-Muslims avoided because they knew how dangerous they were.

Following the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine and the call to action to prevent possible future acts of such senseless violence, this comment did nothing but play into an existing narrative that all Muslims were evil. It also suggested that the people of Paris knew it, hence their reluctance to go into these “no-go” neighborhoods.

The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo wants Fox News to take these words back, confirming to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that a lawsuit on behalf of the city will be filed against the network. Video of her announcement is included below.

“The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced. And I think in the great discussion of truth everyone is to play its role. And we’re going to have to be realistic and put things as they are,” she says.

She would not go into details of the planned lawsuit, but she seemed very determined to right this wrong done against the city of Paris. Meanwhile, Michael Clemente, Fox News’ executive vice president of news, tells the Huffington Post that Hildago’s comment is “misplaced,” which probably means he doubts she will really sue.
