14 DAY TRIAL // Bobblehead dolls with the likeness of Toronto's infamous mayor, Rob Ford, sold like cronuts in Canada on Tuesday. Ford finally admitted to smoking crack last week, during a drunken stupor.
The Ford dolls were signed by the mayor himself and authorities actually had to specify that no person can buy more than one doll.
They cost $20 (€15), and more than half of that goes to charity. Only 1,000 pieces were sold and many people returned home without one.
They did have the option of buying them online though, as those getting their hands on the dolls are selling them at twice, ten times or even a hundred times the original price.
The Toronto Star has tracked down a seller who has listed the doll for $25,000 (€18,500), claiming that it could be worth millions one day and mentioning that Ford is “only crack-smoking mayor in the world.”
Another seller wants $500 (€370) for the doll and takes another “crack” at the mayor, promising to donate the proceeds to a rehab center for addiction, a “win-win for everyone, even Rob Ford.”
