Maxthon, one of the most popular mobile browsers in China has just been updated with a new paradigm called 4-Point Scrolling.

With the newest version of Maxthon Mobile for Android, users will not be limited to paging up and down, instead they will be able to scroll and page through all points of the compass.

It’s a simple, ‘why didn’t everyone do that earlier’ addition that will have a big impact. Adding left and right paging will soon be a default part of all smart phone browsing,” Maxthon CEO Jeff Chen said. “Watch and see. Remember where you first saw it.”

In addition, 4-Point Scrolling also has benefits for devs and websites across handsets and tablets in the Android ecosystem.

As soon as the new paradigm is adopted, the mobile browsing will be much easier and faster as the new system offers an innovative navigational layer for Android-optimized apps and websites.

Most of the time, most smartphone handsets are operated in vertical mode,” said Karl Mattson, GM of Maxthon International. “In that mode the distance required to scroll right to left vs. up and down is usually about half that of up and down. That puts one-handed browsing within everyone’s grasp. Pun intended.”

Maxthon for Android combines a WebKit-based mobile browser and the company's cloud services. Other key features of the application include RSS reader widget, download manager, Super Gestures and Sync capabilities.

However, Maxthon Mobile only includes several pre-defined gestures that can be used, including the ability to open, close, switch and reopen a closed tab. Currently, the application does not allow users to add their own gestures yet.

Maxthon Mobile for Android is available as a free download from Softpedia. The application is compatible with all devices running Android 1.6 or later.
