A new beta has been released for Maxthon Cloud Browser recently (also available as a portable download), introducing a fresh interface for the check for update window along with several optimizations that should contribute to a better overall experience with the browser.

First on the list of improvements is the removal of the automatic prompt to make Maxthon the default web browser on Windows 8 and 8.1.

The download manager has been made more prominent, as it now has its own icon in the Quick Tools section, thus providing easy access to the list of downloaded items or the current download process.

The developer also added a slew of fixes, touching on both the main frame and the WebKit Core. Among the glitches addressed is the failure to display the avatar when special characters are present in the account name.

Also repaired is the bug that prevented the user from sending emails through Yahoo! service and the non-syncing of the last visited content in Maxthon Start Page with what is available in “about:last” area.

Additional polishing work in this beta release (4.2.2.600) refers to the blue lines that appeared in some HTML5 player controls. The complete list of fixes also includes scrolling of the page when using the Ctrl+C command to copy content.
