Seems that way; otherwise, why would Patrick Buechener say 'it just won't be at launch'

Spore, developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright is one of the most anticipated PC titles of the year. However, starting now, it may very well become one of the most anticipated console titles as well. That's right boys and girls, according to Eurogamer.biz, Maxis is turning its head towards consoles, seeing Spore as a "franchise" for platforms such as the PS2, PSP, Wii and so on.

According to the reporting site, "The confirmation came at this week's Leipzig GC, during a behind closed doors demo of the game. When asked whether Spore will hit consoles Maxis exec Patrick Buechener replied, "Not right now, but we see this as a franchise," adding that "it just won't be at launch."

If anyone even remembers, some while ago in an IGN interview, the game's designer, Will Wright, stated the following, answering a similar question: "Well, actually we are going to go on all platforms, but we will come out on PC first. We will even come out on cell phones and stuff." So it was already known that Spore wasn't going to be a PC game only, but it seems that everyone has forgotten about that.

Maybe the answer lies within another one of Wright's statements in which the brilliant designer revealed that a Wii port would be quite successful solely because the platform presented a lot of creative opportunities, which would also prompt the company to come up with a rather different game. Think that's what's holding them back?

It wouldn't be unheard of for a developer to spend more time and resources on developing a Wii title. After all, Nintendo's machine truly is a cash cow and when it comes to games such as Spore, the possibilities of wielding a Wiimote in taking your own species to outer space are endless.

I'm sure you're very excited by this piece of news, so just stay close for updates.
