Great expectations from this movie

One of the latest additions in the long line of video game inspired movies is Max Payne. Coming in mid October, the movie is directed by John Moore, it will have Mark Wahlberg playing the main character, and it definitely looks like it's going to be a pretty decent movie. Recently, director John Moore spoke to GameDaily about his expectations on the film and how happy he was that the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) finally gave it a PG-13 rating, after initially branding it with an R.

Speaking about the movie he had this to say: "I think it's as effective a video game movie you're ever going to see. I think getting an R rating or not doesn't impact the movie one bit. I'm surprised we eventually did get away with what we did get away with." Well we sure hope that it will be good. About the clipping they had to do in order to get the lower rating he said that it was very mild, "We trimmed some frames more for the sake of trimming frames than anything, but we got the rating without any major changes at all."

He also developed the idea for the version that will appear on DVD and Blu-Ray disc, adding that a Gamer's Cut will be made. "There's what I call the Gamer Dedicated Cut of the movie. It's a little slower and a little more atmospheric. There are some rougher edges on it, but it's not going to be a bloodfest. I want this to be the Max Payne that I set out to shoot. It's not that I wanted to release one version in the theaters and make a cheap buck by following up with a blood-drenched DVD version. The movie you see in the theaters will be an intense experience and the movie you see on DVD will be as intense an experience with some extra sensibilities for people who really adore the game." I must say, those are some really nice thoughts coming from him.

He also addressed the idea of a sequel, saying that he and the rest of the team involved in the shooting of the movie have great expectations from it, and they hope that the success it will have is going to encourage the studio to do a sequel. Until October we just have to wait and hope that this movie will turn out to be an enjoyable experience.
