After the massive announcement yesterday that Max Payne 3 now has a new release date, of March 2012, Rockstar, the game's publisher, has confirmed that the original title is scheduled to arrive on mobile devices in the near future.

The original Max Payne garnered a cult following with its noire story, the unique protagonist as well as the bullettime mechanics that impressed a generation of gamers.

Now, as the third installment is getting ready to debut early next year, Rockstar has confirmed that those who didn't get a chance to experience the first Max Payne will be able to do this on their mobile devices soon, in the form of Max Payne HD.

"For fans looking for a new way to enjoy the classic Max Payne, Rockstar Games is happy to announce that Max Payne will receive the full HD treatment for mobile devices. Available for the first time on mobile, Max Payne will have connectivity to the Rockstar Games Social Club and boast the same features as its PC counterparts - including HD graphics and high-resolution textures that take advantage of the latest mobile technologies, including incredibly customizable controls and support for wired controllers."

While it has confirmed Max Payne HD, Rockstar didn't comment on what exact platforms will the game arrive on. It's a safe bet, however, that iPad owners will certainly get the experience, given the popularity of the device, as well as some Android tablets, thanks to the ubiquity of Nvidia's Tegra 2 hardware used by most electronic of this kind.

No word on phones, however, but it's also a safe bet that iPhone owners might get a chance to go through Max Payne HD once it's launched in the near future.

Expect more details about the game's release and a list of devices that support Max Payne HD to appear soon enough from Rockstar itself.
