Microsoft is announcing that the two videogames that make up the Max Payne series are now available for download via its Xbox Originals service, which is available for all those who own an Xbox 360 and have signed up for a Xbox Live account.

If you are interested in picking up the two games created by Remedy Entertainment, then you need to be prepared to shell out 1200 Microsoft Points, which is around 10 dollars in real world money. Microsoft is really doing a good job of posting good games from the old times on Xbox Originals.

Max Payne and its sequel, The Fall of Max Payne, were innovative in both the gameplay and the narrative category. They had one of the best early implementations of bullet time, which allowed players to slow time their enemies in order to take them out easily, while the levels and the weapons were complementing each other very well.

On the narrative side, the stories were good, emphasizing the noir world around Max Payne and his own story. And, of course, they made much more sense than the Max Payne movie that came out and was, supposedly, based on the series.

The Microsoft Xbox Originals release is coming hot on the heels of an announcement made by Rockstar regarding Max Payne 3, which is set to be released for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 sometime in the winter of this year.

Rockstar is quite tight lipped about the project but the initial announcement and the images released alongside it made fans of the series uncover a possible change of city away from New York and a new Max Payne, even bitter and more cynical following the events of the first two games. Playing Max Payne 1 and 2 will probably set the bar even higher for Max Payne 3, so let's hope that Rockstar will manage to create a worthy sequel.
