Chris Nolan is one of the most secretive writers / directors in Hollywood and he has quite a reputation for it. His fans and critics love him for it, but their love diminishes as the release of a new movie approaches, as is the case with this year’s “Interstellar,” and they have nothing to go on.

Matthew McConaughey, who plays lead in “Interstellar” and is now smack in the middle of his Oscar campaign, must know that, judging by his interview with Variety.

He’s not at liberty to say anything concrete about the film, but he can – and does – say this: “It’s the most ambitious thing he’s ever done. And he’s done some ambitious stuff.”

Considering “Inception” and the “Dark Knight” trilogy, that’s one heck of a promise.

Matthew also tells the mag how he ended up with the part, after a meeting at Nolan’s house that he didn’t even know what was about because the movie never came up. “I walked out not sure what to think. I mean, he’s not a guy who takes general meetings,” he explains.

He also says this of the overall mood on set: “There’s no [expletive]-ing around on set. He’s a great problem solver. In that way, he’s very indie. Here’s a guy who could have whatever budget he wants — and we finished shooting early.”

Based on a script by Jonathan and Chris Nolan, “Interstellar” also stars Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace, and John Lythgow. It’s one of the most anticipated movies of this fall, if not actually year.
