On August 1, Ariel Castro of the Cleveland kidnapping case notoriety was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole and an additional 1,000 years for kidnapping, torturing, abusing and raping 3 women.
Matt Lauer, TMZ reports, is dying to land the first post-sentence interview with him.
Castro has already said in court that he wasn’t the monster he was painted as in the media, but Lauer probably wants to get a more personal chat with him than that.
His first attempt was wholly unsuccessful, as he simply showed up at the prison Castro was being held at and acted as if the interview was prearranged, says the aforementioned media outlet.
“Law enforcement sources tell us, Matt and his crew showed up Friday morning at the Cuyahoga County justice center in Cleveland – where Castro is being held – but sheriff's deputies turned him away because the media was persona non grata,” TMZ writes.
“It wasn't Castro's choice – we're told Lauer's timing was just off,” the e-zine adds.
It doesn’t say whether Lauer will give it another go – or when.
