The Today Show will be back to its former glory, no doubt about it

For months, Matt Lauer has been getting mostly negative media attention and it also shows in the slowly but surely dropping ratings of The Today Show. Still, Matt is staying optimistic about the whole thing, as evidenced by his jokes at the NBC News Group’s upfront presentation in NYC this week.

“I would like to tackle what might be a teeny white elephant in the room. We all love covering the news, we hate being the news,” he said, as cited by the Los Angeles Times.

Savannah Guthrie, who came to replace Ann Curry on the morning show after Lauer reportedly got her fired, was also on the panel.

“I promise to spend all of my time and energy over the next several months trying to keep Savannah out of the headlines,” Lauer further joked.

He also promised that The Today Show would bounce back to its former glory in almost no time – of that, there was no doubt.

“We want to go back to the most-watched morning program and the least-talked about morning program,” he said.
