Rumor has it that Matt Damon is going to return as Jason Bourne in the fifth movie in the franchise

This isn't by far the first time that the press has speculated about the return of Matt Damon in the role of Jason Bourne, the super spy created by writer Robert Ludlum. Ever since he left the franchise, people in the industry have been dropping hints, but none of them has turned out the be true.

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass in the director's chair made for some awesome spy movies, which is why so many are so excited about his potential return. Just last month, the actor admitted during an interview that he wouldn't say no to another movie if Paul Greengrass was involved.

Now, Latino-Review is claiming that Damon is sure to return to the action movies, basing its statement on the fact that the movie studio announced yesterday it was pushing the movie back in its release to cinemas.

The reports on the delay speculated that it was done to make way for another released, the gangster movie “Straight Outta Compton,” about the rise and fall of rap group N.W.A. The site claims that this is all just misdirection and that the movie was pushed back for totally different reasons.

It points out that in its current release date, the new Bourne movie would be slated against “Ice Age 5,” a major box office player, which often breaks records in terms of earnings. That's why they think that the producers managed to persuade Matt Damon to return and this gives them a major advantage.

A source close to the project claims that Damon agreed to do the movie because of his recent results at the box office, most of which were disappointing. Of course, Damon knows that a Bourne movie with him in the title role would score big in the box office for a summer release, possibly very big.

Last month he gave his conditions to return to the franchise as “I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story. So if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it. It felt like such a good way to end it the last time... But having said that, I love that character and I'd love to see what happened to him.”

Based on the above, it only stands to reason that Damon and the studio came up with a version of the story that would satisfy both, and he then conceded to do the movie after all these years. The previous Jason Bourne movie was not connected with the first three and stared Jeremy Renner. It performed mediocrely at the box office.
