Matt Cardle slams Miley Cyrus, says debut album will also have his creative input

It’s hard coming off a show as popular and controversial (in terms of merits and value) as X Factor, and the winner of the latest season, Matt Cardle, probably knows it best. Speaking of his first song, Matt (accidentally) rips into teen idol Miley Cyrus.

Matt, who is already number one on the UK singles chart for Christmas with his debut song “When We Collide,” spoke to MTV just recently about doing the cover and whether he would have liked to cover one of Miley’s songs.

As fans must know, Matt’s first single is a cover of “Many Of Horror (When We Collide)” by Scottish band Biffy Clyro and, while he says he’s “wary” of covering other people’s songs, he also says his version is just “an X Factor version.”

He also says he jumped at the chance of doing it because he hated the alternative: Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” which he describes as a kiddies’ song he wants nothing to do with.

“I would have hated to [have] sang Miley Cyrus, The Climb. I mean with Miley Cyrus’ The Climb, you can kind of [expletive] on a Miley Cyrus song and not many people are going to care because fans of The Climb by Miley Cyrus are children,” Matt tells MTV.

Biffy Clyron, on the other hand, have a very loyal fanbase, which is why Matt hopes they didn’t take offense in his take on their hit song.

“They are not going to be like ‘Oh god, I can’t believe they’ve done a cover,’ but when it comes to Biffy Clyro, they have a hardcore, die-hard fanbase and are a hugely credible band. You can’t [expletive] around with one of their songs,” the X Factor winner explains.

Which is precisely what will also happen to his upcoming album. Matt says he knows very well that people will be pushing him into a certain direction for his studio material, but he’s determined to have at least minimum creative input on it.

“I hope I will have that input, in fact I know I will. I’m going to push for it. I’m not going to fight with people but I’m going to make sure I am writing on this album,” he says.

In other words, Matt Cardle is determined he’s going to be more than just another X Factor winner.
