Jackie Collins says he was a perfect fit for the part, not Henry Cavill

2013 marks the return of Superman, with Zack Snyder at the helm of “Man of Steel” with Henry Cavill. The only reason Cavill got the part is because Matt Bomer is gay, Jackie Collins says in a brand new interview.

Bomer, as his fans must already know, is out of the closet but, even before the announcement, pretty much everyone knew about his orientation.

This explains why he was turned down for the part of Superman in “Man of Steel,” Collins says, as cited by Gay Star News. His example serves as lesson for how “tremendously hard” it is for openly gay actors to land certain movie roles.

“Matt Bomer, who is the most gorgeous looking guy and the star of ‘White Collar,’ he was up for the role of Superman,” Collins says.

“He had not come out of the closet but people in the know knew he was gay. His audition tape went in and he called up the agent. Someone didn’t like him and told them he was gay. They said, ‘No, no, we can’t cast you.’ The reason he didn’t get cast was because he was gay,” Jackie adds.

It’s the industry that’s setting up and maintaining these ridiculous standards, partly out of fear that, by revealing the truth, the fans wouldn’t stand for it and, more importantly, not support the project in question.

To prove her point, Collins explains what would happen if Justin Bieber came out as gay: he’d lose everything.

“I think it should change but there are women out there who want to worship somebody. If Justin Bieber said he was gay, he’d lose all his little girl fans. It’s a sad fact of life. So a lot of them get married, have a couple of kids and pretend to be straight,” she says.

That may be only partly accurate, in the sense that many industry bosses don’t want to hire a gay star for a project deemed 100% “straight,” as Superman could be described.

On the other hand, Bomer’s most recent big screen hit was “Magic Mike,” in which he had a small part as an exotic dancer. The ladies loved it – and him in it, so they would have probably still seen “Man of Steel” with Bomer as lead.

Another actor who was reportedly considered for the part and who is still sore at having lost it is Joe Manganiello.
