It turns a single display output cable, from a computer, into three

There isn't much that can be done to spread an image across multiple screens when a personal or business computer only has one display output, unless a Matrox converter is involved.

Matrox used to be an important name on the market of graphics cards, but that was a very long time ago.

Since then, the company changed its business practices until it was left with special video/display converters and little else.

One of them has only just been released, bearing the name of TripleHead2Go Digital SE external multi-monitor adapter.

Long story short, it is a Graphics eXpansion Module (GXM) that receives a signal from a DisplayPort or MiniDisplayPort, or Thunderbolt for that matter, and transforms it into a three-pronged stream that can then be shown on three DVI monitors.

The maximum resolution for each monitor is 1920 x 1080 pixels at 50 Hz, or 1360 x 768 pixels at 60 Hz.

"We're pleased to expand our TripleHead2Go product line," said Caroline Injoyan, business development manager, Matrox Graphics Inc.

"TripleHead2Go Digital SE features improved usability for our customers, offering a simple and easy way to add three displays to a notebook or desktop PC.”

Matrox's adapter has full HDCP support (can play video with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), meaning that it can play everything from common media to protected Blu-ray movie disks.

Consumer benefits are just part of its set of benefits though. Matrox believes that its TripleHead2Go Digital SE can serve in trading, digital signage, ProAV, digital signage, content-creation applications and even simulation training.

"TripleHead2Go Digital SE is a versatile product that delivers an excellent multi-monitor setup from basic office applications to high-end 3D simulation and training environments - its unique design leverages the GPU performance of the system to deliver uncompressed graphics and video across all three displays - a true multi-display solution," says Caroline Injoyan.

Sales will start next month (November 2012), for $279, in North America. Europe will get it too, at 215-279 Euro.
