KVM extenders have managed to prove their worth time and time again, given the fact that they enable users to control multiple computers from a distance, and that's pretty much the case as well with the latest such product from Matrox, the Extio F2208.

[ADMRK=1]So, what we're talking about here is a KVM extender that will allow users to actually put a serious distance between the actual computer and its accessories (such
as the keyboard, mouse, up to 2 monitors, USB devices, etc.), namely up to an impressive 1 km (3280 feet).

In order to do so, the Matrox Extio F2208 relies on a fiber-optics cable, simply due to the fact that it can actually help the uncompressed data to be transmitted a lot faster from/to the host system than in the case of other types of wiring, enabling quasi-instant functionality.

As mentioned above, the Extio F2208 comes packed with multiple connectivity options, including here no less than 5 x USB 2.0 interfaces, that will enable users to hook up all sorts of devices to it, whether we're talking about keyboards, mice, touchscreen devices, etc.

Moreover, the F2208 KVM extender also supports the broadcast of video on up to two displays (DisplayPort, Digital, or Analog), the maximum attainable resolution being of around 2560x1600 pixels (DisplayPort) and 1920x1200 pixels (Digital, Analog) per display, available with the help of the 1GB of built-in graphics memory.

Last, but certainly not least, it's also interesting to mention that the Extio F2208, designed for various mission-critical environments, will take a very small space wherever it happens to be installed, given the fact that it measures 29.97 cm x 2.92 cm x 14.73 cm (or 11.8 x 1.15 x 5.8 inches).

No pricing details for the Matrox Extio F2208 KVM extender have been provided, but given its very specific targeted market segment, we're quite sure that this thing won't come cheap at all.
