Matrox Graphics is known for having somewhat of an obsession for creating graphics solutions capable of outputting video signals to more than one display (well, actually, as many displays as possible). And following this trend, the company has just announced the release of the M-Series multi-monitor graphics cards, which are built around the QuadHead GPU.
The M-Series includes quite a lot of models (M9120 PCIe x16, M9125 PCIe x16, M9120 Plus LP PCIe x16, M9120 Plus LP PCIe x1, M9140 LP PCIe x16), each of these quad-capable display cards offering 512MB of memory, native PCIe x16 performance and support for independent or stretched mode on up to four monitors simultaneously. Unlike other cards, these particular components sport a passive cooling system, the fanless design eliminating unwanted noise and increasing the level of reliability of the product.
The new graphics card series provides native digital quad-monitor support with PCIe x16 performance (M9140), includes dual digital output cards offer low-cost instant upgrade to quad analog output via external cable (M9120 Plus) and allows users to drive up to two monitors per card at maximum resolutions of 2560 x 1600 (M9125 - digital) or 2048 x 1536 (M9120 - analog) per display.
Furthermore, they offer an advanced multi-monitor desktop management system, with support for up to four widescreen monitors (DVI or analog) in portrait and landscape simultaneously as one large desktop or with independent resolutions. The cards also use the Matrox PowerDesk software for configuring and managing program windows on multiple monitors.
"Many applications require the ability to drive multiple monitors-from two to eight displays per seat-especially in high-end corporate, government, and industrial environments," states Alan Vandenbussche, VP Sales and Marketing, Matrox Graphics. "The M-Series represents next-generation Matrox graphics technology specifically designed for these display-hungry professionals."
The M-Series will actually arrive in stores at some point in the third quarter of 2008, their price tags ranging between 260 US dollars for the M9120 PCIe x16 and $600 for the M9140 LP PCIe x16.
