Matrix Games, as the publisher, and Forced March Games, as the developer, have announced that they are collaborating on a new turn based strategy title called Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War. The game is coming to the PC and does not yet have a clear launch date.

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War will allow the player to take control of the entire Carthaginian nation as they try to outfight and outsmart the Romans in a conflict which will define the way the Mediterranean basin develops over the following centuries. The sea, Spain, the North of Africa and Italy are all battlegrounds as the gamers uses their strategic and tactical skills in order to defeat the opposing forces of the Roman Republic.

The game will be turn based and will offer two separate layers. The overall strategic map allow control over the military forces of Carthage as they move around the map anticipating the movements of the enemy and aiming to strike where he is weaker while also parrying his own strikes. The tactical system is activated when two armies clash with each other and allows players to act as commanders on the field, arranging their forces in order to deliver painful defeats to the Romans and their allies.

David Heath, who is the director of operations at Matrix Games, stated when the announcement was made, “From the first screenshots I was struck by Hannibal’s art direction and neat interface. Once we played it, we realized the solid gameplay will keep you coming back for more, even if you’ve never played a game set in this period before! We believe all strategy gamers in search of a well-balanced and polished experience will appreciate this game and we’re proud to add it to the Matrix/Slitherine catalog!”. James Warshawsky, who is the lead developer working on the Hannibal game at Forced March Games also expressed his thrill at working with Matrix.
