The project is still being worked on despite short hiatus

Papyros is a new Linux distribution designed around a Material Design framework, and it promises to be one of the most interesting releases in the Linux ecosystem. After a month that brought no news about its progress, the devs explained that the project is not dead, but alive and kicking.

Papyros already has a lot of fans in the Linux community because it proposes a new approach to desktop design that hasn't been attempted until now. It follows closely the design framework from Google called Material Design, which has been used until now only in Android Lollipop and in Chrome OS, in a limited fashion.

The user community was a little worried that the project has been abandoned after its developers stopped posting updates on their progress, but now they are back, and they've also brought some news regarding their work. They were just busy, and Papyros is well on track, although there is no launch date attached to this Linux distro. It's still pretty far off, even from an Alpha release, but things are moving in the right direction.

Papyros could prove to be a gorgeous OS

The Papyros developers didn't just blindly copy the directions set by Google's Material Design; they made some serious improvements and the desktop already looks great, even in its incipient stages.

"It's been almost a month since our last post, but we're certainly not dead. It's been somewhat slow around here, but things should be picking up again. Also, great job to the team members and other contributors who have worked on the Material Design framework and other components. Hopefully we'll have a v0.1 of the MD framework soon," wrote on the Papyros devs on the Google+ page of the project.

The dev also explained that the team is polishing the Material Design framework, the desktop shell is still being improved and they are working on webapp integration for the OS. We'll provide more information on the project as it becomes available.
