The project is coming along and it looks great

It's been a while since we heard about Papyros, the Linux distribution that used the Material Design concepts from Google, but developers have released a short video that illustrates the work they've done so far.

Instead of just making some fancy themes that could have potentially made an already existing Linux distribution look like it was made by Google, the developers of Papyros focused on making an entire operating system that uses the Material Design guidelines from Google to its maximum potential and that means going the whole nine yards, with a new framework and desktop shell.

Some of you might wonder what this Material Design is about. Well, this is the name of the design concept that was used for Android 5.x Lollipop. Some Linux developers immediately saw the potential of this new design and they felt that it could work very well in a desktop flavor. There are already some themes available that draw inspiration from Material Design, but none of them is completely dedicated to it.

Papyros is already interesting

Papyros is still in its infancy, and there isn't even an Alpha release out there, but there is a good reason for that. The first thing that the Papyros devs made was a proper framework. They are building from that point upwards. It takes longer, but it's going to be a native implementation of Material Design and not something emulated with existing tools.

"We've been busy working on the desktop shell, and have a bunch of new features to show off, including window switching, tooltips, and many of the indicators, including a storage indicator and a sound indicator with music player integration! Also note, the use of the default GNOME icon and Gtk theme is just for demo purposes. Papyros will use a Material Design icon and Qt/Gtk theme for the finished OS," said Michael Spencer, the leader of the Papyros distro.

If you are a Linux user, then you definitely need to keep an eye on Papyros, which will definitely become of the most interesting projects out there. Make sure you check the link for a video with Papyros.
