After Zidane finally decided to tell us his side of the story, people are now more familiarized with what happened on the field. We now have two versions of the story, knocking each other out. On one hand, we have Zidane and almost the whole European media, who are arguing that Materazzi launched mother and racist-related insults on the Frenchman. On the other hand, we have Materazzi and the Italian media, who said that Materazzi insulted his opponent, but it was nothing too serious and it was certainly not about his mother
or religion.

More, when asked if the words from Materazzi’s mouth are the same that go around the media lately – “you’re son of a terrorist whore”, Zizou answered: “That’s pretty much in the same area”.

After Zidane’s interview on “Canal +” last night, Materazi issued a statement in the same night, saying that he has certainly not insulted the French player by talking trash about his mother. More, the Italian wanted to remind everybody that he himself lost his mom at the age of 15 and is very sensitive on the subject: “I didn't insult his mother. I lost my mother when I was 15 years old and still get emotional when I talk about it. Naturally, I didn't know that his mother was in hospital but I wish her all the best”.

As for the racist accuses that he had to read about in the English, French and Russian media – and, of course, the Algerian one – Materazzi denied that too. After saying that he is not a cultured person and doesn’t really know what an Islamic terrorist is, he elaborated on that yesterday night: “I didn't mention anything about religion, politics or racism”.

More, the Italian defender – known as one of the toughest in the Serie A – wanted to let everyone know that he is very sorry for making Zizou leave the world of football like that and that he will always treasure his contribution to the sport: “Zidane is my hero and I have always admired him a lot”. The Italian, much like Zidane, will have to speak up before a FIFA commission about what happened, and the world body will take the necessary actions.
