A new location-based application for Android devices has been announced by MasterCard, one of the leading global payments companies in the world. The application simply helps users find the nearest ATM regardless of their location.

According to the company, the application takes advantage of the location-based technology integrated in the Android platform to search for the nearest ATM.

Complex search algorithms are also included, as users can customize their search based on their banking needs such as a search for a specific financial institution if they need to make a deposit or for surcharge-free ATMs.

Furthermore, the developer of MasterCard ATM Hunter informs that the application can also pinpoint wheelchair accessible, drive-thru or 24-hour access ATMs and provide special directions to get there.

“MasterCard is focused on delivering innovative applications and services that help make life easier not only for MasterCard cardholders, but for all consumers,” said Cheryl Guerin, senior vice president, Global Digital Marketing, MasterCard Worldwide.

“With the success of this application on both the iPhone and Blackberry, it is a natural progression to bring it to the active Android user base as well. Now, Android smart phone users can save time by using the MasterCard ATM Hunter in real-time to find an ATM nearby,” added Guerin.

Problems such as non-working ATMs or ATMs that no longer exist can be reported “live” using the “report a problem” feature.

MasterCard ATM Hunter is powered by the MasterCard Location Services platform, which is one of the new delivery channels used by the company.

The application is compatible with all Android devices and is available as a free download from Android Market.

As a side note, it seems that MasterCard didn't updated the application's description for Android Market as it still mentions that it can be used with „your iPhone GPS.“
