The game will use the classic mechanics and races

The team at Wargaming is announcing that it is working on a reboot of the classic Master of Orion strategy franchise, aiming to take the core ideas of the series and re-create them to appeal to a wide modern audience.

Development duties are handled by an Argentina-based studio called NGD, which apparently hired some of the members of the original team.

The short announcement trailer does not offer too many details about the concepts that will power the title.

Wargaming states, "Lead one of 13 playable races in your bid for galactic domination, each with several unique advisors, racial advantages, technologies and specialized ship designs. Will you choose the fearsome Alkari warriors, savvy Gnolam traders, the sentient Meklon robots, or a race closer to home: humans?"

The Master of Orion game mechanics will be re-built from the ground up, and the team also promises to offer enhanced visuals and a new personality for many of the included races, although there are no clear details about the tweaked features at the moment.

The game will also feature a better user interface, a soundtrack created by the original composer, and voice-overs created by well-known but not yet announced actors.

Master of Orion will have classic 4X mechanics

In order to succeed, players will have to colonize and to develop planets, design and then actually construct a powerful army, interact with rivals via diplomatic means and finally fight them directly when communication breaks down.

Fans can choose to play on maps that range from 20 to 100 solar systems, with a variety of worlds that can be conquered and exploited.

The rebooted Master of Orion from Wargaming and NGD will also have 100 unique technologies and more than 24 buildings that can be created to boost a civilization's capabilities.

The new strategy title sounds interesting and will clearly attract a number of players because of the name, but it's unclear whether it can compete with a more modern approach.

Recently, Galactic Civilizations III from Stardock has managed to offer a very solid take on the 4X concept.

More details about Master of Orion will probably be offered during E3 2015.
