14 DAY TRIAL // Wargame: Red Dragon, a real time strategy developed by Eugen Systems and published by Focus Home Interactive, has been released on Steam for Linux.
Eugen Systems supported the Linux platform right from start and it was one of the few studios that ported its games when Steam for Linux was only in its infancy.
The guys from Eugen System are not exactly rookies when it comes to real time strategies and they have a long history of successful titles, such as Act of War: Direct Action, R.U.S.E., Wargame: European Escalation, and Wargame: AirLand Battle.
“Wargame Red Dragon is even more ambitious than AirLand Battle, and offers a vast array of content that is rich in new features. For the first time ever in Wargame, the ground and airborne forces will be joined by warships! The naval forces in Red Dragon are not merely extra units - they bring an additional strategic depth to the game that will unlock fresh tactical opportunities for any commanders smart enough to exploit their strength, particularly on the designated game maps.”
“Over 650 new units (a total of 1,450!) and meticulously detailed and varied battlefields provide an immense strategic depth and a new dynamic campaign system and intense multiplayer modes, where up to 20 players can compete simultaneously, make Wargame Red Dragon a worthy successor to AirLand Battle,” said the developers from Eugen Systems.
Wargame: Red Dragon was released on April 17 and it took a while until the Linux version was made available. Eugene Systems only ports its games to Linux and not Mac OS X, which is a strange choice, but other developers do the same.
As you would expect from such a complex game, the system requirements are quite high. Keep in mind that this list only has the minimum requirements, which means that you will need a much more powerful computer to get everything you can from the game.
Players will need at least Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit, Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit, or SteamOS 64-bit, an AMD or Intel Dual Core 2.5 GHZ processor, 2048 MB of RAM, ATI RADEON X1800 GTO, NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GT, or INTEL HD 3000 (Intel will most likely not work properly), 20 GB of available space, and a broadband connection.
Wargame: Red Dragon also benefits from a 33% discount that is scheduled to end in a little over 24 hours. More details about the game can be found on the Steam website.
