The Judge overseeing the lawsuit in California decided the award was too high

Last year, ASUS was ordered to pay Apple a massive patent infringement damage sum of $1.05 billion, which roughly equates to 810 million Euro.

Apparently, the fine has been cut in half, or at least by 45%, leaving it at $550 million / 422 million Euro.

Judge Lucy Koh, the one overseeing the patent war in the San Hose, California district court, ruled that the initial award was unjust, since the jury "based its award for 14 Samsung products on an incorrect legal theory."

After all the fuss Samsung made about the Jury foreman guiding the others wrong, this is the closest thing to that total reset it wished for.

Samsung, of course, wants the damaged educed further, if not done away with completely. It will have to make a new appeal or get a new trial to pull it off though.
