Soviet Assault will still be released

The situation is looking kinda grim for all who love World in Conflict as much as I do. When Activision announced its intention to only retain intellectual properties like Spyro, Ice Age, Crash Bandicoot and Prototype from Vivendi Games, everybody was worried about the fate of Ghostbusters, the videogame re-interpretation of the '90's movie. I was worried that Soviet Assault, the expansion/console port that Massive and Swordfish were creating for World in Conflict, was not even mentioned in the press release from Activision Blizzard.

The developers confirm that Activision has indeed chosen not to publish their upcoming game and that the studio is currently in talks with a number of other potential publishers, whose names have not been disclosed.

Talking to VG247, company president and founder Martin Walfisz, said that "For the past six month's we've been waiting for the merger to go through and to understand whether they see us as a part of their future or not". It was not easy for the company to continue the development process for Soviet Assault under all the pressure.

It seems that Activision Blizzard "didn't want an RTS studio in Europe" even trough "we would have loved to have worked with Activision", as Walfisz puts it. The problem with the future for Massive is that they do not own the original World in Conflict and it's pretty unsure what Activision Blizzard plans to do with it. The game could be sold from now on by Activision, but the guys at Massive would love to see that intellectual property being acquired by the same publisher that gets Soviet Assault.

Walfisz is confident that his company will secure a deal soon and commented that "Massive has been in tough situations before in the past 12 years, and we've always come out stronger. Most of the guys in the company at least have faith in our ability to find a really interesting future". I personally hope to hear good news about Massive and Soviet Assault as soon as possible.
