Massachusetts to Try Out Thompson's Bill Against Violent Games

- Although his bill has been shut down numerous times before, game hating attorney Jack Thompson doesn't give up

By: Filip Truta, Games Editor

href="http://news.softpedia.com/news/PS3-Games-Rental-Site-Launched-49988.shtml">PS3 with two wireless controllers, a copy of Resistance Fall of Man and a promise to get a GTA IV copy when it launches: who is Jack Thompson? If you know your violent and sex related games, then you surely know the answer to the question, only the PS3 and stuff were a joke.

OK. Seems that although Thompson's poor attempts of bringing down violent games and games with sexy content have failed over and over again, the man just won't rest. He actually hates games, not just violent ones I'm sure. So, recently, Thompson aided legislators in coming up with the ultimate game bill (that was shot down in states such as Utah and Louisiana), to prevent the sale of games "harmful to minors." Massachusetts' legislators have been offered game bill HB 1423, in an attempt to "restrict the sale of video games with violent content to minors," says the press release.

So it's nudity, sexual conduct or sexual excitement, we're talking about here, "so as to appeal predominantly to the prurient interest of minors." Who makes up these phrases anyway? It's almost as if they want stuff like this to happen. HB 1423 has been placed before the State House, having 21 individuals listed as sponsors, including Boston Mayor Thomas Menino (his office initiated the push for the legislation), as Game Politics.com posts today. What do you think Massachusetts is going to do?

Anyway, I just can't wait to see what happens when GTA IV launches. Look, I'm not saying that it's wrong what Thompson and friends are doing and I kind of appreciate it in a strange way that I've never felt before, but it's certainly not that good of a bill if it's been shot down so many times. Besides, it's that kind of war that never ends, like the one before developers and piracy.
