Secondary events that don't have room in the games can be told through other mediums

BioWare has talked about the array of other Mass Effect products that have appeared alongside the actual games, saying that they all blend together to flesh out the story imagined by the studio.

Mass Effect 3 is set to appear next month and complete the series of video games developed by BioWare.

Besides the actual titles, however, BioWare struck multiple partnerships with comic book companies, writers and animation studios to deliver different types of experiences based on the Mass Effect franchise.

As such, we’ve seen a variety of novels, comic books and all sorts of other things appear over the past few years. According to Mass Effect producer Casey Hudson, they all contribute to the story imagined by him and his team.

"We've got an ongoing relationship with Dark Horse [for comics], and we've got some stuff coming out of that. We've got the feature-film in the works. We've also got an anime movie that's coming out - it's getting pretty close to being done, and it's looking fantastic,” Hudson told CVG.

"All these things tell different facets of the overall storyline, but it's still ultimately the full story of the trilogy. So when fans check out a novel, a comic-book or a movie, they're seeing parts of the same story that really flesh out the details we can't otherwise show you in the game."

A long series of novels are already available based on the Mass Effect series, telling stories about secondary characters and filling in the gaps between the actual games.

Dark Horse has also published several comic books that brought new information about companions from the game, like Liara, and some other characters, like The Illusive Man.

The movie project has been stuck in pre-production for quite some time, so it’s unclear if it’s actually going to appear anytime soon.
