Mass Effect 4, the next game in the third-person shooter role-playing series from BioWare, is set to arrive in 2016, according to a new report that claims that over 200 people are now working on the title and that it will dwarf in terms of content both previous titles in the series and BioWare's recent Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The Mass Effect series is arguably one of BioWare's biggest franchises, and after concluding the Commander Shepard trilogy back in 2012, the studio moved on to a brand new stage in the series, as it's working on a new installment that's completely separate from the original trilogy.

This next game, presumably called Mass Effect 4, already got some early concept footage back at E3 2014 last summer, and according to a few BioWare executives, the team managed to deliver a great playable build of the title over the winter holiday period.

Now, a new report arrives via NeoGAF with fresh information about the upcoming role-playing shooter, its estimated release period, and how it will dwarf even the sprawling Dragon Age: Inquisition.

A lot of people are now working on the game

First up, it seems that once Inquisition entered the final stretch and after its release back in November, around 150 developers moved to the new Mass Effect project, as initially there were only around 50 people working on the game.

This procedure isn't that surprising considering BioWare's big teams, and apparently everyone is dedicated to making the new Mass Effect 4 the best title ever shipped by the large studio.

The content is going to dwarf Inquisition

A main priority is to fit in a lot of content that can be explored by players, in order to dwarf the already huge environments and multitude of stages seen in Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare's latest RPG that launched in November of last year.

Given this lofty goal, the new release period for the upcoming Mass Effect game is 2016, and not even the early parts, as it could well slip to the fall of the upcoming year.

No other details are known but you can expect to hear more about the next game in the Mass Effect series probably at E3 2015 this summer.
