14 DAY TRIAL // After the Mass Effect 3 internal demo was leaked over the weekend on the Xbox Live online service and downloaded by quite a lot of Xbox 360 owners, BioWare has acknowledged that quite a lot of story details were also leaked, but the studio highlights that the information within is quite old and that changes have been made to the plot since then.
BioWare was faced with a pretty major problem over the weekend, as a human error on behalf of Microsoft saw an early internal demo of its Mass Effect 3 be leaked on the Xbox Live service.
Xbox 360 gamers flocked to download it and immediately began posting impressions, screenshots and even videos of the game even in its unfinished form.
Shortly after that, the first story details were uncovered when the files of the beta were actually examined by fans. BioWare has started issuing cease and desist complaints against the websites that have posted these story details and has made it clear on its forums that the files from the beta weren't up to date with the current plot of the game.
"We are still investigating, but it appears that some internal story files have been leaked. Even though the information in those files is out of date and does not reflect the final story experience, we urge fans not to read them if they want to experience the purest form of the story in Mass Effect 3."
BioWare made it clear when it released the first details about Mass Effect 3 that the story of the role playing sci-fi shooter will be a close guarded secret in order to not spoil it for loyal fans that have invested their time in the first two games and want to see the adventures of Commander Shepard come to a glorious end in the third one.
We know some general details, like how Shepard needs to unite the galaxy against the Reapers, a race of sentient alien space ships, but BioWare has refrained from saying anything else or even from acknowledging just how many characters will be encountered by the Commander throughout his adventures.
