BioWare has posted some fresh details about the Mass Effect 3 Special Edition which will be released for the Nintendo Wii U later this month, confirming that it includes an updated version of the Genesis interactive comic book that lets players make crucial choices from the first two games.

Mass Effect 3 came out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 back in March and is currently getting ready to appear right alongside the Wii U once it launches this month around the world.

We have already heard a few details about the game, which is developed by BioWare in partnership with Australian studio Straight Right.

Now, its External Producer, Melanie Faulknor, has revealed some new info via the BioWare blog, confirming the array of new features that have been added to this new version of Mass Effect 3.

“We’ve added additional content and new features to fully utilize the Wii U GamePad. Our team in Edmonton and the team at Straight Right was working together constantly to create a feature set we think would enhance Mass Effect 3 and we’re proud of the results,” she said.

“You can control your squadmates, utilize both Shepard and your squad’s abilities and even play Mass Effect 3 all from the GamePad – something that comes in super handy if someone else in the house wants to watch or use the TV.”

What’s more, besides including a variety of DLC, like the From Ashes and Extended Cut single-player add-ons, as well as the Rebellion, Resurgence and Earth multiplayer expansions, the Wii U game also has an updated version of the Genesis interactive comic.

“We are also including a new update to the Genesis interactive back story comic from Dark Horse we first released when Mass Effect 2 came to the PS3. The updated version will allow Wii U players to get the back story of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 and will allow them to make decisions at key story points,” Faulknor added.

“These choices will then create a save game for you that can be imported into the game, opening up more storylines for each player. So if you’re new to the series, you can get caught up and personalize the experience. And if you’ve already played, you can choose a different route to see what things you might not have seen the first time around.”

Mass Effect 3 Special Edition is out right alongside the Nintendo Wii U on November 18, in North America, November 30, in Europe, and December 5, in Japan.
