The team at BioWare that handled the multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3 says that the players who have supported the new modes should be praised for their dedication and for the way they have pushed developers to improve the experience.

Jonathan Warner, a senior producer on the game, writes on an official blog that, "I wanted to thank everyone who played Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, and participated in our challenges and events. You have made working on it a real pleasure."

Multiplayer will continue to be supported via leaderboards and the N7 Headquarters, but the team will no longer deliver special events for the community.

The resources previously dedicated to this side of Mass Effect 3 are now being redirected to other BioWare projects, although the team is not yet ready to offer information on their exact nature.

David Crooks, another developer involved with Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, adds, "Working on the live environment and all of the DLC for the multiplayer was a blast, in large part to the community. I’m still ecstatic over how much content we got to deliver in the last year."

When the multiplayer mode for Mass Effect 3 was first announced, many fans reacted negatively, believing that it would detract BioWare from the core single-player experience.

The controversy over the ending seemed to confirm those expectations, but many players found that they were continuing to play the multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3 even after the adventures of Commander Sheppard were done.

BioWare has worked hard to make the modes appealing by adding more content constantly, with new races, new abilities and new items offered to players for free, while the team has also made it easier to buy content from the official store.

At the moment, BioWare is rumored to be working on a new title in the Mass Effect universe that did not feature Commander Shepard.
