BioWare has just unveiled the special Mass Effect 3 challenge that will be held this weekend, in the form of Operation Resurgence, which focuses on the newly released Resurgence DLC for the game’s multiplayer.

Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer has impressed many of the game’s owners with top notch action and a distinct focus on cooperative play.

Now, after the Resurgence Pack DLC appeared earlier this week, BioWare has unveiled that Operation Resurgence will take place this weekend, bringing with it unlockable characters and extra XP.

Basically, from Friday, April 13, at 5PM PST, until Monday, April 16, at 5AM PST, Operation Resurgence will be in full effect.

This means that anyone who accesses the multiplayer in that period will receive a special Reserves Pack in the following week, which contains one of the new characters introduced by the DLC.

“Firebase Condor and Firebase Hydra are available immediately,” BioWare said about the new Operation. If you download the Resurgence Pack and play this weekend you will be rewarded with a Reserves Pack the following week, containing one new Resurgence character.”

What’s more, those who play online matches on the two new maps that are included in the Resurgence add-on, namely Firebase Condor and Firebase Hydra, will get 10% more XP.

Operation Resurgence will be available for Mass Effect 3 players on the PC and Xbox 360 platforms, provided they have the “Upload Gameplay Feedback” option from the settings mode turned on.

Sadly, BioWare has revealed that its ongoing talks with Sony about bringing such Operations to the PlayStation 3 edition of Mass Effect 3 haven’t had any result as the Japanese company is still preventing the studio from executing its strategy.

“Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our Multiplayer Challenge weekends on PlayStation 3,” the studio added. “Sony has not yet approved the promotion. We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but until then, Sony will not allow us to run the same Multiplayer Challenges on the PlayStation 3 that we run on Xbox 360 and PC.”

Are you thrilled about this new Operation or were you expecting something a bit more challenging?
