Video game developer BioWare has announced that the next multiplayer event for Mass Effect 3 will be called Operation SILENCER and will start on Friday, May 11 at 6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time and will run until Monday, May 14 at 5:00 PM PST.

The event will be available on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC and all players interested in taking part need to make sure that they switch On the Upload Gameplay Feedback setting of the game.

The goal for the operation is to kill a total of 3,000,000 Banshees during the weekend, with each players also needing to make sure that they achieve a full extraction using the Gold difficulty on any of the included maps.

If the 3 million kills goal is reached, players will get a Victory Pack while the extraction will also give the player a Commendation Pack, all offering rewards that are not normally available using the equipment packages in the store.

PlayStation 3 players are warned they will not get the promotion screen but will get the rewards.

The official announcement from BioWare reads “Cerberus defectors have verified key intel on Reaper banshees to help provide us a vulnerability to exploit. Banshees are created from a specific kind of asari that cannot be replaced quickly, so we are diverting forces to focus on an all-out banshee extermination effort.”

It adds, “This task is an onerous one, and many of you are right to dread contact with these particular foes, but rest assured that we are prepared to reinforce your battalion with reserves. The vorcha want in, and as soon as they complete combined-arms training with our technically-skilled personnel, we will let them loose.”

The last line suggests that BioWare is close to launching a second big content package for Mass Effect 3, which might include new maps alongside new classes and weapons.
