Mass Effect 3 is going to receive its long-awaited Extended Cut downloadable add-on today on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms for free, which should deliver a much more expanded conclusion to the game’s ending.

Mass Effect 3 came out in March and, while it went on to sell millions of copies and impress quite a few people, fans were disappointed with its conclusion, as they felt it ended too abruptly and didn’t provide enough closure.

In order to soothe their worries, developer BioWare quickly confirmed that a special Extended Cut add-on would appear, designed to further clarify what happened at the end of the game depending on the player’s choices from all past titles.

Now, after a lengthy wait, Mass Effect 3 is finally set to receive the Extended Cut DLC today, across the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

In case you forgot, here’s BioWare’s description of the add-on.

“The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.”

However, BioWare quickly adds that the add-on won’t actually change the endings that can be chosen by players.

“The Extended Cut is an expansion of the original endings to Mass Effect 3. It does not fundamentally change the endings, but rather it expands on the meaning of the original endings, and reveals greater detail on the impact of player decisions.”

In case you want to directly experience the Extended Cut, you should load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus base (one is made automatically right after you complete the game for the first time).

In order to unlock all endings, you also need an Effective Military Strength rating of at least 3,100.

Are you looking forward to the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut or are you still disappointed with the game?
