Batarians aren't pretty but they're quire powerful

Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode received a bunch of new content last week in the form of the Resurgence DLC, which brought forth new characters, maps, weapons and equipment.

I’ve already talked about the Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard and the two Geth characters included in the DLC, the Engineer and Infiltrator.

Now, it’s time to discuss the two Batarian characters that have also been added to the online mode in Mass Effect 3 by the Resurgence pack: the Soldier and Sentinel.

Batarians aren’t exactly among the most popular races in Mass Effect’s universe but, at least in the multiplayer, they prove to be almost the perfect choice for someone who prefers melee attacks.

Sure, both the Soldier and Sentinel classes have Krogan characters that are much better at melee than the new Batarians, but their novelty plus their unique powers make them perfect for at least a few matches.

Both the Soldier and the Sentinel characters have the Blade Armor power, which basically adds lots of spikes to your current armor, slowing down the use of your other abilities, but providing extra damage resistance plus a nifty automatic attack against enemies who try to physically hit you.

The Sentinel can also deploy his Submission Net on unsuspecting foes, stopping them right in their tracks and providing a damage-over-time effect. This is crucial when fighting agile opponents like the Cerberus Nemesis, as it keeps them from avoiding your devastating melee attack (the Falcon Punch, as I like to call it).

The last Sentinel power is the Shockwave but, just like on the Human Vanguard, it’s not that powerful so you’re better off investing in other skills.

The Soldier adds, besides the Blade Armor power, the unique Ballistic Blades attack, which basically sends a bunch of spikes into your enemy. These don’t just provide damage on impact but also over time, depending on how much points you invest in the power.

You can also throw Inferno grenades when playing a Batarian Soldier, which come in handy while taking on groups of enemies, as they’re stunned and ready to be taken out by either your blades or the melee attacks.

Have you tried out the Batarian characters in Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer or are you still waiting to unlock them?
