You may not always get the weapons, items or characters that you want

Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode is a great experience and, depending on your luck, you’ll have many great memories with the matches you’ll complete, or at least attempt to, alongside buddies or strangers online.

Sadly, there’s still a lot of unpredictability when it comes to buying and unlocking new stuff for your different characters.

While in the multiplayer, you can access the Store section where you can buy different packs with in-game credits or real life money.

Upon buying a pack, either a standard Recruit, Veteran or Spectre one, you’ll be granted different things, from consumables like rockets or medi-gels, to new weapons or characters.

Sadly, this unlocking mechanic is extremely random and, often times, a bit unfair.

Case in point: I mainly play Infiltrator characters that use sniper rifles. Even so, I had to wait a very long time before the game gave me a Widow weapon, which is arguably the most powerful sniper gun out there.

Before giving me the Widow, the game unlocked all sorts of weapons I had absolutely no use for, including lots of shotguns or sub machine guns.

Upon completing the Operation Goliath challenge, the special N7 weapon I unlocked was the Hurricane, a submachine gun that’s been gathering dust in my virtual storage locker since then.

This lottery of unlocking also applies to characters, as I had to wait a very long time until I got my Krogan soldier or Asari Adept.

Even now, I have friends who’ve spent more time than me in the multiplayer but still have different characters that are still locked, no matter how many different packs they’ve bought.

As a special tip, for those who want to completely upgrade their standard weapons (like the Mantis sniper or Avenger assault rifle), continue buying recruit packs as they’ll eventually take your guns to level X.

How did your unlocking experience go in Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer? Do you have all your desired weapons and characters, or are you still dreaming about different things?
