I took my new Krogan Vanguard on an unknown map against an unknown enemy

Mass Effect 3 received the Resurgence Pack DLC earlier this week and, after spending quite a lot of credits on the Premium Spectre Packs, I finally unlocked one of the new characters brought by the add-on, in the form of the Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard.

I’ve already taken my Vanguard to the maximum of level 20 and my love for Krogan characters is already well-known here at Softpedia, so this unlock made me jump with joy.

After naming him Kroggy Van Murder, customizing his looks (you can’t go wrong with bright purple), and spending points in his various powers, I wanted to take him for a spin.

As any Vanguard player will tell you, the key to a successful match is hosting your own server. As such, I started up a Bronze match with an unknown enemy, on an unknown map.

Sadly, no other players joined my server so, after five minutes of waiting, I decided to start the match myself and just try out the character until I’m killed.

My luck was mixed, as while I encountered the Geth as my opponents, which are much easier to deal with when you’re a Vanguard (no insta-kills like Cerberus or Reaper enemies), I was taken to Firebase Hydra, one of the new maps from the Resurgence Pack that was completely unknown to me.

I started off slowly, charging and melee-ing enemies with my Krogan and I was certainly lucky when the objective waves appeared, as two of them required defusing four objects around the map, while one tasked me with eliminating priority targets.

In between these waves, I started learning the map, including its ammo boxes, its long hallway and the bits of cover I could use.

Being all alone on a map does have its advantages, as enemies would spawn in multiple locations, which made my job much easier. I would charge into a group of four enemies, take one out immediately, melee the other two, and then charge into the final one to regenerate my shields.

The extraction wave was a bit tricky, but I mostly just ran a full circle of the map and got into the pick-up zone with five seconds to spare.

As such, Krogan Van Murder lived up to his made-up name and defeated the Geth on an unknown map.

While I advocate for teamwork, completing a match solo is certainly an experience you’ll remember, especially when you’re playing a fun character like the Krogan Vanguard.
