Barely has BioWare's Mass Effect 2 appeared for the PlayStation 3 and owners are already reporting some serious issues, most of which pertaining to corrupt save game files.

Mass Effect 2, after a year since it was launched on the PC and Xbox 360, has finally been deployed onto the PlayStation 3, based on the engine of the future Mass Effect 3, and filled with downloadable content released for the other two editions.

Sadly, for PS3 owners that eagerly awaited the critically acclaimed role-playing game, things aren't that good, as the title has some pretty serious issues.

According to BioWare forum members, Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 is prone to random crashes that require users to reboot their console.

After the device is up and running, the save game files for Mass Effect 2 appear to be corrupted, so players must start the game once more from the beginning.

What's worse, once the game crashes, all of the save game files are corrupted, not just the most recent one, meaning all progress on all the playthroughs is lost.

BioWare has been alerted of the problem, and is working on a fix.

Until then, though, Mass Effect 2 Producer Jesse Houston and Community Manager Chris Priestly are asking for more details from PS3 owners.

"Just to make it clear, we are aware of this issue and are working to understand what is occuring and how we can fix it," said Priestly. "If you are encountering this issue, please provide details about your PS3 and your playthrough."

Houston advises players affected by this issue to visit the Mass Effect 2 PS3 forum and share details about the circumstances.

Mass Effect 2 was eagerly awaited by PS3 owners, as this was the first taste they got of BioWare's extremely successful role-playing game franchise.

The title was filled with almost all of the previously released downloadable content, with the studio proclaiming that this was the closest thing to a Mass Effect 2 Game of the Year edition.
