Mass Effect 2 will be launched on the PlayStation 3 in January 2011, according to Ray Muzyka, the co-founder of BioWare. The developer made the announcement during Electronic Arts' press conference at Gamescom 2010.

Mass Effect 2 was originally released on the Xbox 360 and the PC on the 26th of January 2010 to wide critical acclaim. The PlayStation 3 edition will include the full game, alongside bonus content.

It is not clear yet what this bonus content is exactly, but it is safe to assume that it will include most or all of the downloadable content packs currently available for the PC and the Xbox 360 versions.

This is Commander Shepard's first appearance on Sony's home box and it really seems like a strange decision on EA's part, considering the fact that playing through the first game considerably improves the experience of Mass Effect 2.

Hopefully, EA and BioWare will help out PlayStation 3 owners that want to get up to speed with what has went on the game's universe before the second installment in the series.

Mass Effect 2 is the highest rated game in BioWare's and EA's history, receiving more than 70 perfect reviews, including from our team here at Softpedia. The high quality of the gameplay and the story made it one of the best releases of the year so far.

Many fans hoped to see a Mass Effect 3 first look when Dr. Ray Muzyka went up on stage during EA's presser at this year's Gamescom.

This third installment will be ending Shepard's story in the series' universe and is set to expand further on the great storytelling that has been a hallmark of the Mass Effect franchise until now.

Mass Effect 3 will keep the cross-over of choices from the last installment, meaning that gamers should make sure that they keep their Mass Effect 2 saves safe.

While it is known that it is in development at BioWare, Mass Effect 3 has not been officially revealed yet. BioWare said in the past that it wanted to release the game as soon as possible, before this generation of consoles ended.
