And they said it wouldn’t last: former child star Mary-Kate Olsen has been dating the half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Olivier Sarkozy, since 2012 and, despite the age gap, they are as in love as ever and, according to a new report, talking about taking their romance to the next level.

That is to say, Mary-Kate and Olivier are planning to get married and a first indication in this sense is that she’s been spotted shopping for an engagement ring several times in the past couple of months.

Oddly enough, Olivier did not accompany her on any of these visits to jewelry stores, Page Six writes, which could mean that she gets the final say in the choosing of her engagement ring. She might even pay for it herself, if you think about it.

“Spies tell us Olsen, 27, who’s been dating 44-year-old Olivier Sarkozy for more than a year, was spotted shopping for an engagement ring in Los Angeles recently. The actress-turned-fashion designer was at the Neil Lane boutique in mid-November, and sources tell us she has since made several trips to the store to check out the pricey wares,” the report mentions.

She’s already picked several favorites but she’s yet to decide and purchase one. Perhaps she’s waiting for Olivier to be able to accompany her.

“She really likes cushion-cut diamonds, and all of the rings she has looked at are over 5 carats. She has narrowed it down, but still hasn’t made a final decision,” an insider says for the tab.

According to the spy, all the rings Mary-Kate has taken a fancy to are priced upwards of $100,000 (€72,748) with the “Captain Obvious” source stating that money is probably not an issue. Even if she ends up paying for the ring out of her own pocket, we must not forget that Mary-Kate is one half of a designing duo that’s been enjoying massive success for years.

The Olsens’ fashion line, though not very large or, for that matter, eye-catching, includes only luxury items, with accessories like backpacks and bags costing more than half the amount she’s thinking of paying on a supposed engagement ring.

If Mary-Kate and Olivier do tie the knot, this will be his second marriage and her first.
